Title: C01 - Talk it up! Research-based strategies for a language-rich, interactive additional language classroom
Presenter: Michelle Gill and Natalie de Wit
Audience: K-12 All languages
Time: 10:45 am - 2:30 pm
Description: Participants will explore a variety of instructional strategies that encourage collaboration and discussion, increase participation, and offer access points for our additional language learners. This session will provide you with research-based practical techniques and resources that are easy to implement, that are comprehensively scaffolded, and that engage students in developing language skills, that underpin their literacy success. Each participant will receive a copy of the ‘7 steps to a Foreign Language Classroom’ and a poster in their language of instruction!

Title: C02 - Introduction to UFLI
Presenter: Tyra Lasko
Audience: K-3
Time: 10:45 am - 2:30 pm
Description: UFLI Foundations, a phonics program designed to help students improve their reading and writing skills, is being used in classrooms across North America. Designed to teach the foundational reading skills for Gr. 1 & 2, it can also be used to fill in gaps for older students. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the features of UFLI, learn how it can benefit your students and see the resource in action.

Title: C03 - EQUITY - ART - LITERATURE
Presenter: Jennifer Ofeimu
Audience: K-9 Educators
Time: 10:45 am - 2:30 pm
Description: Come explore a diverse selection of equity-themed books that can be used in the k-9 classroom, there is something for everyone! Engage in classroom art and creative writing activities that complement the selection of books. Through the inspiration of the arts, the edges of big topics are often softened as students explore the world around them. The session champions the inclusion of all identities – representation of diverse communities – and supports students engaging in perspectives and worldviews beyond their own.

Title: C04 - Land-based learning - Fish Trap Creek and Blue Heron Nature Reserve - FULL
Presenter: Marleau Brown and Sameera Bird
Audience: All
Time: 10:45 am - 2:30 pm
Description: Connect with the land and nature at Fish Trap Creek and the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve. Learn about Indigenous plants, ethnobotany, herons, and salmon. Preview this as future field trip opportunities for students. Travelling by bus.

Title: C05 - Supporting Executive Functions in Adolescents
Presenter: Tana Richards (POPARD consultant)
Audience: Middle & high school teachers and support staff

Description: Come and hear more about how to support the development of executive functioning skills with middle and high school students.  Our POPARD (Provincial Outreach Program for Autism & Related Disorders) consultant, Tana Richards, will be leading the session.

Title: C06 - Building Communication & Literacy with the SMILE Program
Presenter: Angela Montgomery
Audience: Classroom teachers, LSS

Description: The SMILE program (Structured Methods in Language Education) is a multi-sensory program designed to teach communication and literacy.  It is especially useful for students who may be minimally speaking.  Come and learn how the program is structured and leave with a few ideas you can implement right away.
